I grabbed a bottle of Redemption Rye Whiskey at K’nB Wine Cellars here in San Diego. I’m not gonna lie-I grabbed it because the tall, sleek bottle was sexy as hell. If you’ve ever seen my husband you know I like tall, sleek things.
Anyway, I’ve been really loving rye whiskeys as of late. Typically dry and spicy, they scream Fall to me. Redemption Rye fell right into those lines. A little sweeter on the nose than I expected but definite cinnamon and clove flavors. Even a sprinkle of tobacco. Think of a your sexy hipster man, with his leather man-purse walking down a street scattered with fall turned leaves. Carrying freshly ground spices from the farmer’s market. Smoking a pipe. Whoa…
The spicy (spicy Autumn, not spicy sriracha; Autumn the season, not that girl) combined with a crisp finish makes this a great, approachable rye whiskey. This would be a great choice for those who have had undesirable punch-you-in-the-face experiences with rye in the past. Especially since there wasn’t a lot of burn to it.
It was pretty stellar in mixed drinks. The hubby came down sick so I made him a Hot Toddy (hot water, lemon juice, honey, whiskey) using the Redemption Rye and it was delicious.
Anyway, for $30 it was a solid purchase.
