Lavender, my new favorite ingredient

The family and I went back home to Reno/Gardnerville/Tahoe for the 4th of July weekend and it was flippin’ hot. So. Very. Hot. I suddenly had flashbacks to when I was a kid and tried to fit inside the freezer to escape the sweltering heat. Regardless, we made the most of it by eating amazing food, catching up with fabulous friends, and getting lots of love from our fantastic families.

One of the highlights, for me at least, was visiting Lavender Ridge, which is a lavender farm right by my mom’s house. You can walk through the farm, get some light eats, and shop their adorable gift shop.  I was so excited to try lemonade, shortbread cookies, brownies and carrot cake all containing lavender. Of course every single treat was perfectly delicious, so I decided to grab a bottle of dried lavender and am going to incorporate it into the flavor of the month for August. Or maybe I’ll keep it all to myself. We’ll see.

If you’re ever in Reno, you should check this place out. It’s quaint and inviting and the owners are wonderful people.
